Hiring a freelancer is tough.
Do you use a marketplace?
Do you ask a friend?
If you find someone, do you dictate the price/timeline etc?
The secret is that it shouldn’t be up to you to create a good experience. It should be up to the freelancer, since a good freelancer makes it easy to hire them.
They drive the discussion and ask questions to educate you on what’s needed.
They understand and teach you the best course of action (even if the best result is not hiring them).
They handle the logistics —> they create the scope, pricing, timeline etc.
Most important, they provide a low-risk way to get started.
How do you hire a good freelancer?
Unfortunately finding a freelancer is a noisy, noisy process. There are over 50 million freelancers in the US alone. There are over thousands of marketplaces.
Yet all you really need is a warm intro to the right freelancer.
Getting the warm intro is the hard part. How do you know, that someone you know, knows a good freelancer for you (that was a mouthful)?
