Mottola Joins Vicoland To Lead Vico Success
Excited to announce I'll be taking over to lead Freelancer Success At Vicoland, the hub for freelance teams and virtual companies
Leaders, extremely excited to tell you I’ll be leading Freelancer Success at Vicoland.
Why Vicoland?
Access to the Enterprise.
Enterprise adoption is what will make our industry go from reactionary to strategic. From $200,000 to $100,000,000 spend on freelancers.
Yet freelancers can’t access the enterprise on their own. They need to go through partners, whether VMS’s, MSP’s, or freelance marketplaces like Upwork Enterprise to comply with security, compliance, and various other hurdles.
Vicoland has built this from the start, specifically through software, partnerships, and processes.
From ‘gig’ to sustainable careers.
As a 10+ year freelancer myself, I’ve seen and learned that the future of the freelance economy can go two ways - gig or career.
Gig = marketplace
Marketplaces are great, but I can’t see how they can empower over half of society a sustainable career (the reason is technical).
Career = freelance companies
Instead, what we learned at Venture L and my own 10+ year freelancing career, is that freelance businesses, powered by remote networks of freelance teams, create the most sustainable careers.
Ownership.
Vicoland is not the only platform to offer freelance teams.
It is the only platform where as an individual I own 100% of my business. From the people I add, to the projects we take on, my ‘Vico’ is my company.
Whereas with other freelance team solutions, the marketplaces themselves are creating the teams.
Maybe it’s my American roots. But I want to own, not be shared on a marketplace.
Long Term, Product Led Growth.
I mean this in the most complementary way possible, Vicoland is not good at marketing. They are product and engineering first. Which as an entrepreneur that did the living room in the valley, there’s no better trench I like being in then action led product teams.
Vicoland also started by eating its own dog food. They didn’t raise $14m off a pitch deck and shoveling 💩 (I mean, growth hacking). Within Cocomore, a digital agency, they noticed they could deliver best with independent contractor teams, so they created Vicoland to both be better internally and empower both entrepreneurs and other companies to embrace this model.
This ethos aligns us in sticking to the future of B2B professional services, with the transition from traditional agencies doing SOW work to virtual teams taking over staffing and traditional agencies. It’s not sexy, but it’s the reality of what will move the needle for 80%+ of companies and individuals.
Global footprint.
While a small town American at heart, I’ve been global first my entire career. At Venture L we had freelancers on every continent. In my own teams I
