🤔 What Can Full Time Employment Learn From Freelancing?
In this period of hyper resignations, maybe we can learn something about attracting and retaining talent from the freelance economy?
Biggest hint…freelancing has been 5 years ahead of full time employment. 👇👇👇 is me bringing freelance insights into Microsoft.
Here are 5 quick principles we wrote about as far back as 2019!
Freelancers love not being stuck with one boss
Freelancers love having a trial period when working with a new client
Freelancers love the autonomy to choose what they work on
Freelancers love having real time, transparent feedback on their work
Freelancers love the ability to prioritize their time. Since success is measured through deliverables, they might work from 9-5. They might work from 5-10. Who cares? So long as they deliver.
💻 What Can 117 Remote Gigster Teams Teach Us About Remote Collaboration?
Gigster provided 117 remote software development teams to help Stanford research the impact of discursive diversity and team performance.
The results: In simple terms, the study showed that cognitive alignment ebbs and flows throughout a project, with highly successful teams being cognitively aligned at the beginning and end of a sprint (when coordination heavy task are happening), yet cognitively very misaligned in the middle of a sprint (when creative problem solving is happening).
Simple takeaway: Align in the beginning, don’t worry if it feels like a mess in the middle, but button it up in the end.
🚨 Checklist!!!! Cut the fluff. These 8 requirements are exactly what you need to start winning clients and scaling a service business.
