#67: SOTU Recap...Biden Expects 'Return To The Office', Inflation Roars Despite Promises to Fight (And $30B For New Covid Strategy...Ouch)
You're not alone, inflation is hurting all of us, from the every day coffee to the forever home. Let's talk how to navigate this.
Quick Update On Our End:
We’ve kicked off our paid membership tier. Paid members receive info first, a detailed analysis on each update, worksheets & decks, and the ability to ask questions.
Why a paid tier (we were internally very torn)? Because based off experimenting with various revenue routes, this allows us to give you the most authentic, non-biased, and tangible info.
Also secret, we don’t reject requests for financial support.
We’ll be releasing these updates on Friday now (updates are changing by the day it seems so we want to make sure you have them when they’re most relevant).
Then each Monday we’ll be releasing the transcript’s of each podcast episode for paid leaders. This way you can ctrl-c/ctrl-v quotes from your favorite leaders into your own newsletters or decks.
Thanks y’all for the continued support!

💩 Inflation
You’re not alone…
State of the Union Recap
👍 The good…
🇺🇦 A brief glimpse of bipartisanship as both sides of the aisle rallied around the cause of a free and independent Ukraine. It didn’t last long, but we’ll take anything we can get.
😷 A largely maskless public gathering on a large scale. As many have said to me in the past few weeks, “It’s good to be back.” +1 for human connection.
🚩 The bad…
💩 Inflation - President Biden - “I have a better plan to fight inflation. Lower your costs, not your wages. Make more cars and semiconductors in America. More infrastructure and innovation in America. More goods moving faster and cheaper in America. More jobs where you can earn a good living in America.”
Hearing the word ‘more’ a lot. What’s the impact of ‘more’? Hint…not sure it leads to lowering inflation.
💻 Remote Work - President Biden: "It's time for Americans to get back to work and fill our great downtowns again. People working from home can feel safe to begin to return to the office."
Umm what? 1980 called and it wants its pager back.
According to GoodHire, “45% of Americans would either quit their job or immediately start a remote work job search if they were forced to return to their office full-time”. More stats in the leader portal.
So basically, returning to the office means increasing the great resignation and labor shortage…nice.
🤔 Tesla - Why can’t Biden acknowledge Tesla? Hint…it’s partly about decentralization, partly about startups, and mostly funding.
This one’s pretty funny 👇
Actually, @elonmusk makes a solid point to Pres @JoeBiden. The President doesn’t mention Tesla, perhaps because Tesla is non-union and moved to Texas, a “right to work” state. Give Elon Musk/Tesla its due. They are game changers and should be heralded.@JoeBiden Tesla has created over 50,000 US jobs building electric vehicles & is investing more than double GM + Ford combined [fyi to person controlling this twitter]Elon Musk @elonmusk🙌 Related…Elon Musk delivers Starlink terminals in Ukraine, providing satellite-based internet.
Return-to-Office (RTO)
Meta, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, American Express and Cisco are all reopening their offices in March.
A couple things…
Who really wants to return to this? 👇
Jason says it best 👇
Great Resignation - how do you keep your key talent?
Help with upskilling as 48% of Americans say they would switch to a job that offers upskilling.
New Covid-19 strategy expected to cost $30 billion.
According to Wall Street Journal, “The 96-page National COVID-19 Preparedness Plan focuses on four goals: Protecting against Covid-19 and focusing on treatment, preparing for new variants, prevention of shutdowns of businesses and schools, and global vaccine donations”.
Let’s just pile on the inflation right?

Inflation: our advice doesn’t change, you need to plan for 10-20% increases in costs.
State of the Union Recap
Remote work: stick to the data 👇
63% of people in Jason Calcanis’s survey say they should embrace a hybrid return to the office where employees choose remote or in-office.
Tesla: There’s a couple takeaways
1: Yes, business leaders can have more power than a President. Just look at the ratio 👇👇👇
2: Creating business value has never been easier as digital tools and freelancers give individual leaders the power of many.
3: The beef comes down to Unions (Tesla isn’t unionized, the Democratic Party is in bed with unions). Expect union input to increase and create more complication in the classification of employees and contractors. Refer to our PRO Act article to see how this plays out in regards to government policy.
