🤔 LinkedIn rolls out its freelance services marketplace globally after picking up 2M users in smaller US beta, TechCrunch.
😍 Americans’ confidence in the job market nearing highest level ever.
🥦 Labor Shortage: In its IPO filing, salad chain Sweetgreen said it was struggling to get employees to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
🧻 Inflation: Major corporations say prices are going to keep going up for everyday items into 2022, per The Wall Street Journal.
💸 Talent War: Even investment bank chiefs are finding themselves at the center of the so-called war for talent.
♻️ Green Tech: The future of work and the future of energy are intertwined. So when Tesla sells 100,000 cars to Hertz, that’s a big deal. What seemed like science fiction (or at least, very bad economics) just a decade ago has now gone mainstream.
LOL - Strategy or handwaving? Facebook pushes into metaverse, changes name to Meta. Will this be the sci-fi become reality for the future of work and life, or just window dressing to run away from bad publicity? Don’t discount what $50B in cash reserves can do in terms of sheer innovation resources.
🤔 Take A Think…
What’s the real meaning of freedom at work?
As Adam Grant said in his recent article, “the rise of remote work during the pandemic is just one part of a generational shift that is redefining how and why we do our jobs. The Great Resignation isn’t a mad dash away from the office. It’s the culmination of a long march toward freedom.”
Couldn’t agree more, Adam Grant! Here’s a snippet from our book The Human Cloud:
“Every bully eventually meets their match. Goliath met David. Scut Farkus met Ralph in the movie A Christmas Story. Johnny had Daniel in The Karate Kid. And the office has the human and machine clouds.
Yesterday when the bully came knocking, we’d be stuck handing over lunch money and saying, “Thank you sir, may I have another?” But we won’t put up with it anymore because today we have another option.”
